In April 2010 South Australia will welcome athletes with an intellectual
disability from all Australian States and Territories for a week of
companionship, excitement and competition at the Special Olympics IX
National Games.
Over 850 Special Olympics athletes and their coaches will be hosted at
the official 'Olympic Village' at Adelaide Shores - one of South
Australia's premier holiday precincts.
Participants will have the opportunity to take part in the spectacular
Official Opening Ceremony on Monday 19 April and then enjoy a week of
spectacular competition in 12 Olympic Sports at a range of competition
venues around the city.
On the final day of competition, all athletes, coaches, officials,
families and volunteers will assemble for the emotional and celebratory
Closing Ceremony on 24 April 2010, which will be undertaken with the
famous South Australian festive flair.
